Channel Islands National Park is located off the coast of California, just west of Los Angeles. The park covers 5 of the 8 Channel Islands. Human activity there dates back to over 37,000 years ago. More recently, the islands were inhabited by the Chumash tribe. About 3 thousand people lived in several villages across three of the islands.
