This rugged mountainous region has the most expansive glacial system in the contiguous United States. Originally inhabited by the Paleo-Indian Native Americans, the area became popular in the early 19th century as British and American companies competed for control over the fur trade.

Dry Tortugas National Park is the 59th national park to be added to the Duckwyn Travel app. We're on track to have all 63 US National Parks in the app by the end of next week which is fitting given that next week is National Park Week.

To learn more about National Park Week, check out the National Park Service web site. Great Basin National Park is located along Nevada’s eastern border with Utah. The parks name comes from its location in the Great Basin, a dry, mountainous region between the Sierra Nevada and Wasatch Mountains. The park is known for its groves of ancient bristlecone pines, Lehman Cave, and for the 13,063-foot high Wheeler Peak.

Source: Wikipedia Channel Islands National Park is located off the coast of California, just west of Los Angeles. The park covers 5 of the 8 Channel Islands. Human activity there dates back to over 37,000 years ago. More recently, the islands were inhabited by the Chumash tribe. About 3 thousand people lived in several villages across three of the islands.
Black Canyon of the Gunnison is one of the deepest, narrowest canyons in the United States. Carved by the Gunnison River, the canyon’s narrow width and steep decent makes it difficult for sunlight to reach its depths. On average, the river drops 34 feet per mile making it the 5th steepest mountain descent in North America.
